American University Meme Page

Transcript:

Hello Everyone! My name is Travis Ruoff and The topic of my research is the American University student meme page.

I have conducted interviews on people who are a part of the page as well as cataloging screenshots of memes and conversations. Some key results that I have uncovered are that people see the page as a conduit for their frustration towards the university, but not as a platform where serious actions can take place. It is a place where people feel connected and relatable with each other in their grievances and that they can get a good laugh out of it.

This is interesting and important because online political satire has become more and more introduced throughout society and it can have major effects on conversations. When grievances are expressed about a certain issue, the administration for example could look at the page and see what the students are venting about. It is also important in the context of online conversations as a whole and is a great way to dive deeper into the online realm.

The goal of the this conversation is to reflect how the AU meme page is a way for students to express their frustrations on life and the university. It also plays a larger conversation in the role of online discourse and engagement in a time when more and more people are getting access to the internet each day. My target audience are American University students along with the administration who could use the insight that they could gain from this page. That’s it, Thank you and have a great day.
